Highlights and insight

Amanda, who heads up the Services team here at Shirley Parsons, offered up her opinions on a range of topics, including initially what motivates both candidates and companies in their hunt for the perfect position or person respectively. She discussed the increased importance placed by organisations on “having the right soft-skills” alongside the relevant qualifications, whilst saying of the new generation of HSE professionals looking for a new job: “You can see with millennials… more of a focus on things such as flexible working hours, part-time working, working from home… more of a consideration for the work/life balance”.

With the analysis moving on to interview techniques and situations, Amanda was keen to stress the importance of an interview being a two-way process. She said, “Interviews go both ways – you have to assess if the company is the right fit for you, as well as it being the other way around.” Following on from this, she offered some advice to those attending any interview by saying, “You always need to have questions prepared to show an interest”, adding, “…employees want people who want to work for them and who show an interest.”
